Berkshire, one of the Home Counties, is also referred to as the Royal County of Berkshire; Windsor Castle is within its borders. The county neighbours Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire to the north, Wiltshire to the west, Hampshire to the south and Surrey/Hounslow/Hillingdon to the east. Most of Berkshire’s population is based in the urban areas in the centre and east of the county. The west of the county is more rural. Some 800,000 people live in Berkshire.
